May 17 - Div. III District Meet (Gibsonburg H.S. - day 2) - The Wildcats were a close second to Margaretta in the meet with 112 points. Margaretta was the district champ with 114.5 points. Woodmore will have 11 athletes in 12 events at the regional meet next week in Fostoria after they qualified by finishing in the top four in the district meet. Woodmore had athletes win five district events. Senior Azure Travis won four of those. She won the 100 hurdles in 14.52, she won the 100 in 12.34, she won the 300 hurdles in 44.48, and the 200 in 25.86. Her time in the 100 broke the school record of 12.2 set by Beth Parkins in 1992 and her time in the 200 was just off of Parkins' school record time of 25.84. Travis was the Div. III state champ in both hurdle events last year helping the Wildcats to the state team title. Senior Emma Hammer won the district title in the 800 with a time of 2:16.69. Woodmore had one runner-up individual finish as junior Lilian Runion was second in the long jump with a best of 16-2 3/4. Freshman Willow Lewis advanced to the rgional meet in the 800 with a time of 2:27.24 to place third and Emma Hammer will also run in the 1600 at the regional meet after placing third in the district met with a time of 5:36.37. One relay also placed third. The 400 foursome of senior Madi Hammer, Runion, freshman Abby Schmeltz, and sophomore Ariana Florio ran a time of 52.19. The 1600 relay team also earned a ticket to the regional meet with a fourth-place finish in a time of 4:10.45. The team was Emma Hammer, Madi Hammer, Florio, and Lewis. Also earning a regional meet ticket was junior Stella Strong in the discus with a best of 102-9 to place fourth. Junior Addison Overmyer is also heading to the regional meet in the pole vault after a fourth-place district finish in the pole vault clearing 10-0. The Wildcats had several other athletes earn team points in the district meet. Florio placed sixth in both the 100 (13.29) and the 200 (27.66), senior Caydie Buchanan was seventh in both the 1600 (6:02.67) and 3200 (13:17.25), and the 800 relay team was seventh in a time of 1:51.54. Madi Hammer, Runion, Schmeltz, and freshman Emma Hahn were the relay team members. During the district meet, the Northwest District Track and Field Officials Association awarded the Fred Dafler Award for sportsmanship and athletic accomplishment and Travis and Emma Hammer were both awarded the honor. Track officials in the district nominate and vote on the honor.
