Still holds school record in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.2 set in 1970
Was third in the state AA meet in 1970 in the 180-yard low hurdles; won both the 180-yard lows and 120-yard highs in the regional meet; helped team to a sixth-place regional finish
Was third in the state Class A meet in 1969 in the 120-yard high hurdles; was second in the same meet in the 180-yard low hurdles; team tied for 5th in the state meet with 11 points; helped team to the Lakeshore Conference title; helped team to a district title and second-place regional finish; won the regional meet in both hurdle events
Was also an all-league player in football
Went on to run at Bowling Green State University where he was a four-time qualifier for the NCAA indoor meet in the 70-yard high hurdles; as a freshman, he set the BGSU freshman record in the 120-yard high hurdles; he set a BGSU record outdoors in the 120-yard high hurdles in 1972 as a sophomore running 13.8 and helped the Falcons win the MAC outdoor meet finishing second in the 120-yard high hurdles and he won the 440-yard intermediate hurdles with a new Mac record; in 1972, he also qualified for the for the NCAA outdoor meet in the high hurdles and the 440-yard intermediate hurdles and was a qualifier for the Olympic Time Trials in Eugene, Oregon; as a senior in 1974, he was the MAC champion in the 440-yard hurdles with a time of 52.5 and he helped the Falcons to a runner-up finish in the MAC outdoor meet; he set the school record in the 440-yard hurdles in his senior season of 51.8; he qualified for the NCAA outdoor meet as a senior; he was also on two relay teams that won MAC titles during his collegiate career
