5th grader Alice Christianson has qualified for The Blade's Final Regional Spelling Bee! She will compete on Saturday, March 9th at 10am against 21 other contestants for a chance to represent our region in the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C!
Congratulations to Alice and happy studying!!

Students in Mrs. Peters' 6th grade social studies class did an ancient Egyptian simulation yesterday! The students were learning about the different roles of people in Egyptian society. The students used M & M’s to represent crops. The separation of the M & M's represented the labor that the peasants had to do to grow the crops. The peasants and the merchants then had to pay a majority of taxes to the most important people in the society: the pharaoh, the priest, and the nobles. One of the pictures shows the three most important people in society toasting to their rewards. We then compared ancient Egyptian society to our society today.
What a fun way to make learning hands on!

Our elementary and middle school staff got a nice surprise this morning from the Woodmore PTO! They were welcomed into the building with coffee, hot chocolate, and muffins! Thank you so much for the pick-me-up this morning!

Mr. Haas made it half way and was called back to school, according to Mr. Haas. Wink wink. What great weather for our first day! Yesterday, two of Mr. Miller's classes had the privilege of hearing ODOT present. They provided each student with a folder of information and spoke on entry level positions, employability skills, and all the various career fields that are needed for ODOT to operate on a daily basis. Students were able to ask questions and they allowed time for individual conversations with students. What a neat opportunity!

If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to check out Window 2 Woodmore, our high school student publication! They recently had a guest writer (a former 5-time Associated Press sportswriter of the year in North Dakota!) who complimented the publication's series on the state of journalism. You can find Window 2 Woodmore here: https://window2woodmore.com/

The HS boys basketball teams lost at home to Northwood - the varsity dropped a 63-31 decision as Luke Morris scored 17 points; the JV team lost, 29-10, as Calvin Lipstraw and Camdyn Schwartz both had 3 points; and the freshman lost, 35-23, as Calvin Lipstraw scored 12 points.

Last Friday, the Woodmore boys' basketball and cheerleading teams showed their appreciation to the Woodmore staff! Each athlete got to pick a staff member to bring to the game and they each wrote a little note about them as well. We could not love this more! (Be sure to check out our Facebook post to see all of the pictures!)
And don't forget that tonight is Senior Night! It will be the last time our five senior athletes will be on our home court. Come out and support them and the rest of the Wildcats! We hope to see you there!

In an effort to improve the morning traffic flow and drop-off procedures, beginning on Monday, Feb 26, we will start a new drop-off procedure and traffic flow pattern. From 7:10 am to 7:45 am, this new procedure will be in effect. The attached map details how the new traffic pattern will look. The key points are:
1. Only school vehicles (buses and vans) and WLS staff will be allowed to enter off-of
Ames and Augusta. Students and parents should enter and exit off of Fremont St / W
Elmore Eastern Rd.
Beginning Feb 26, we will have our SRO and an Elmore police officer posted at the
entrance off of Ames and Augusta as a friendly reminder to enter and exit off of Fremont St / W Elmore Eastern Rd.
2. The green arrows on the map indicate the traffic loop for grades 5-12 parents that drop their high school and/or middle school student(s) off. The drop-off area for 5-12 students can take place at the Spirit Rock to the East Doors.
High school students will be permitted, as always, to enter the east doors between 7:10 am and 7:40 am. After 7:40 am, all HS students will be required to walk to the main doors to enter the building.
Middle school students, grades 5-8, will walk down the sidewalk to the overhang area or the main doors if they want to wait for their bus in the vestibule or main lobby.
Elementary students that load at the high school should also enter off of Fremont St / W Elmore Eastern Rd, drop students off, and exit back onto Fremont St / E Elmore Eastern Rd. If parents are dropping off, drop the student at Spirit Rock and allow them to walk down the sidewalk to where the bus loads. Parents can also park and walk their students to the bus.
There will be a temporary barricade located on the east end to facilitate the left-hand turn towards the drop-off area. After dropping off your student(s), please follow the green arrows and exit back on Fremont St / W Elmore Eastern Rd.
The modified traffic pattern is in an effort to improve student safety. This new pattern will separate the school vehicle traffic from the drop-off traffic and will ensure that all drop-offs are curb-side drop-offs.
Thank you in advance for helping us keep school and student safety a priority at Woodmore Local Schools!
