The 8th graders brought The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton to life during their ELA class periods by having a “rumble”. After reading the novel, students had the option to dress up as a Soc, the ones who have all of the advantages in life and are considered an asset to society, or a Greaser, the ones who have all of the disadvantages in life and get blamed for everything. The main character of the novel clearly expressed these inequalities between Greaser and Soc life which led us to have a rumble to understand this message. The rumble consisted of several competitive activities related to the novel all while giving the Socs an unfair advantage in order to win.
