On May 29, Mr. Schlea's 8th grade PEC science class took a trip to Ohio State's Stone Laboratory on Gibraltar Island (right off South Bass Island). During the trip, students participated in real-life scientific studies on Lake Erie. They collected water, zooplankton, and phytoplankton samples from the lake, later observing and identifying those plankton under microscopes. They also went trolling for fish where they caught walleye, yellow perch, and sheephead. In addition, they engaged in insect studies and collections, conducted fish studies and dissections, and observed the island's geology and glacial grooves while discussing the history of the Great Lakes region. This trip was fully funded by the Ottawa County Community Foundation and provided a valuable, hands-on learning experience for the students!

Woodmore will have two athletes participating in the state track meet on Friday. Junior Landon Rich will run in the 100 prelim at 10:25 a.m. on Friday and senior Drake Blausey will run his 400 prelim at 11:10. If they advance, they would run in the Saturday morning final.
Families,
Just an email to share that tomorrow is Color Run day!! All students will be bringing their belongings outside prior to the start of the race and will be placing them on the large playground behind the school. Students will NOT be able to go back into the building after the race due to the mess the powder creates.
Here are the race times:
4th and 3rd will run 1:45-2:05
Middle school will run 2:05-2:20
2nd and 1st will run 2:20-2:40
KIndergarten will run 2:45-3:00
A few quick reminders to help make the day go as smoothly as possible.
Students who returned their signed permission slip will be able to walk, jog, or run during their scheduled time.
Please have your child bring a towel to wipe themselves off and to lie on their bus seat/car seat for the ride home.
The powder can cause some irritation....bring sunglasses and a bandana to keep the powder out of eyes, nose, and ears.
Wear old shorts and tennis shoes with the color run t-shirt. (If your child did not order a t-shirt, wear an old white shirt so the colors will show.)
If you plan on taking your child home after their race, please sign them out on the sheets hanging on the office windows. Also, make sure to let your child's teacher know before/after signing them out.
Students will not be able to get back into the building once the color run has begun and ended.
As a reminder, parents and younger siblings are welcome to WATCH the color run from the sidelines of the race. Only school-age students should be running in the race. While it is tempting to allow younger siblings to join in, please refrain from letting them on the race path. Their time to join in will come soon! Also, please refrain from squirting runners with water. While it may seem like a lot of fun and enjoyment, it quickly turns the powder into a sticky mess. For students who need to ride the bus, the drivers then have a very difficult time clearing the caked-on mess off the floor and the seats.
It should be a fun day overall and one that the students (and staff) definitely look forward to every year. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions, or just to share your amazing pictures!!

Elementary Principal
